Joan Lillian Mack (née Hajostek), 86, passed away on July 21, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on December 2, 1938, Joan lived a full life focused on what mattered most to her: family, and friends. She was married to Randy Mack and was the proud mother of Sharon Prexta and Wayne Mack. She loved being a grandmother to Olivia, Rebecca, and Sam Prexta, as well as Clara Jane and Charlotte Mack. “Gla-ma” also loved playing with her great-grand daughter, Lane Noggle.
Joan was a woman ahead of her time. After several years working for an insurance company Joan saw a need so she started her own business (Western Reserve). This put her in rare company of being a woman who owned her own business at a time when many women didn’t even have their own checking account. It was later acquired by Central Reserve Life (CRL) where she worked and developed many lifelong friendships. While there Joan worked hard but also enjoyed many perks of her dedication like trips to Hawaii or ski trips to Peak and Peak. Joan loved Christmas especially the gift giving, she always volunteered to wrap by hand with bows, 100’s of toys for the company Christmas charity parties.
Outside of work Joan was involved in many things. She was an avid sports fan and religiously watched all the Cleveland teams and of course The Ohio State University Buckeye football games. She attended every football game her son Wayne played from little league on up through college. She was a volunteer cheerleading coach for Sharon at Baldwin Wallace. This continued when the grandchildren came along, and she could often be found on the sidelines of a soccer game or the pool deck of a swim meet. After her kids had grown, she and Randy often traveled with The Browns Bakers Club road tripping to watch the Browns play in other cities. Joan was a lifelong learner; she took many classes through the Institute of Learning in Retirement at Baldwin Wallace College and always had a book with her. She was also a member of a Ladies investment club for many years and to this date her investments are growing.
More than anything else, she enjoyed spending time with her people. Joan will be missed for her honesty, her sense of humor, and the way she made everyone feel like they were part of the family.
A private service to remember Joan and Randy will be held at a future date.
